If Anyone Tells You Making Money Is Easy, They’re Lying
Mar 29, 2025
Sure, some people get lucky - the Bitcoin speculators, the ones who cashed in on the dot-com bubble right before it burst. But for every person who struck gold, there were thousands - millions - who lost everything. That’s not a system. That’s luck.
It’s like trading, right? Some people make money, but a lot lose a ton. It’s a high-risk game, and not everyone wins. I see so many young guys jumping into day trading, convinced they’ll get rich overnight. I’ve been there. I’ve tried it. I lost a lot. And sure, that dopamine hit feels amazing when you’re up - but for most, it’s just a fast track to burning through their hard-earned cash. Unless you really know what you’re doing (and even then, luck still plays a role), it’s gambling. Not a strategy.
And yet, we’re constantly fed this narrative about how easy it is to make money. Stories about Penny, who started a side hustle and turned it into a fortune. Or Pete, who magically transformed £50K into passive income. And then there’s Instagram. Those sponsored posts that seem to promise that if you “click here,” you too can become a property millionaire by next Tuesday. Seriously? Cut the crap.
The Reality of Entrepreneurship
No wonder so many people feel like they’re failing. We’re sold this idea that if we’re not making six figures overnight, we must be doing something wrong. But here’s the thing: if making money was that easy, why are so many people struggling just to get by?
The truth is simple: making real, sustainable money is hard.
Some people land high-paying jobs they love and say it’s “easy” now, but let’s be clear - they put in years of hard work to get there. If you're building something of your own - whether it’s a side hustle, a business, or anything else - expect it to be tough. The beginning might be exciting, but once reality kicks in, the grind begins. The setbacks start rolling in. And this is where most people quit. Because when the fun is over, it’s boring, frustrating, and it can be pretty lonely.
Sticking With It
If you go in thinking success will come easily, you’re setting yourself up to quit the moment it gets tough. You’ll start buying into all the stories and ads promising overnight success, and then feel like you’re the only one struggling. But here’s the reality: success isn’t about speed, it’s about perseverance. The ones who make it are the ones who refuse to stop.
I get it. There are days when all I want to do is crawl into bed and forget about everything. Today’s one of those days. But I know it will be worth it in the end. The alternative? It’s way worse. All I need to do is think back to my last job and how miserable I was, and that alone is enough to keep me moving forward. On top of that, my strong belief in how financial advice should be, combined with my frustration over some of the things I’ve seen in the industry, makes giving up completely out of the question. No chance.
The Grind: It's Real, It's Exhausting
Let’s be real for a moment: running a business is exhausting. It’s frustrating. It’s isolating. Right now, I’ve just finished two brutal 12- to 14-hour days. And while I know some people work even longer hours, I’m not here to glorify burnout. But let’s not sugarcoat it either. I’m drained. My head hurts, my energy’s gone, and I feel alone. A little down, even.
But this is the reality. My business is growing, but it’s not all sunshine and roses. It’s hours and hours of grinding through the tedious tasks nobody talks about - the soul-sucking ones that feel like they’ll never pay off. Sometimes, it’s just plain miserable.
The Truth About Success
The lows? Right now, they outweigh the highs. But that’s just how it goes. Don’t expect to be running through fields of daisies while everything magically falls into place. Sure, it might look like that on those perfectly curated posts you see on social media, but trust me, there’s chaos hiding behind the scenes.
So, if you’re feeling like you’re not doing enough or that you’re falling behind because you’re not making piles of money overnight, stop. That’s not how it works. If you’re doing the best you can, that’s something to be proud of.
And if you’re making enough to get by - especially in this economy - you’re ahead of the game. Don’t let the fake success stories make you feel like you’re failing.
Keep Going
Keep going. Keep putting one foot in front of the other, no matter how tough it gets. And seriously - ignore all that fake nonsense out there. You’re giving it your all, and that, my friend, is what truly matters. 💗
