When Your Mind Won't Quit: Why I Had to Blog Today
Dec 21, 2024OK, I know, it was just yesterday when I wished you all a Merry Christmas and mentioned taking a break from blogging. And I did plan to take some time off. But, you know how it goes - sometimes your brain just won’t shut up, and it feels like the universe is practically demanding you grab your laptop and get it all out before your head explodes. So, here I am, typing away, trying to make sense of it all - once again! 🤯
Quick side note: I just devoured eggs and spinach on toast and now I’m letting it settle before heading out for my first solo run since my 20s. I usually run with a friend, but this solo adventure feels like exactly what I need to clear my cluttered mind.
The Great Divide: Your 20s vs. Your 40s
Lately, I’ve been thinking about the big difference between your 20s and 40s - like comparing a rave to a yoga retreat. Both are great, but totally different vibes.
Then comes your 40s. It’s like your life hits the reset button, and everything slows down. Suddenly, it’s more about peace, fulfillment, and this deeper sense of joy. Sure, fun still happens, but it's no longer about chasing every thrill; it’s about savouring the ones that really matter. You stop living for the chaos and start living for the calm.
A Coffee Chat with My 20-Year-Old Self
If I could sit down with my 20-year-old self over coffee, here’s what I’d say:
“Listen, life’s going to get easier - not because the challenges disappear (they really don’t), but because you’ll finally find peace with who you are. You’ll start building real confidence and self-belief, and one day, you’ll actually feel comfortable in your own skin.
You’ll stop tying your worth to other people’s opinions or actions. You’ll realise that happiness isn’t something someone else can give you - it’s something you find within yourself. Yes, relationships will still matter, but it will be about the meaningful ones - the ones where people show up authentically, and you feel completely at ease, being your true self in their presence.
And those impulsive decisions? I’m not saying you’ll never slip up again. But you’ll get really good at hitting pause - taking a step back, reflecting, and making decisions with intention. You’ll learn to choose what’s truly right for you and what’s best for the people you care about. Trust me, that pause? It’s a total game-changer."
Stormzy and the Power of Discipline
On a completely different note, last night I read an interview with Stormzy that really hit home. He talked about how he sticks to a routine - not because he enjoys it, but because he needs discipline to operate at his best. He also has a team supporting him with fitness and nutrition.
It got me thinking: I need that kind of discipline too.
Right now, I feel like a human whirlwind - disorganised, scattered, and a bit all over the place. But after reading that interview, I’m ready to take action. I’m reaching out to my former personal trainer for online coaching and nutrition guidance.
I’ve been meaning to do this for ages, but life kept getting in the way (or so I told myself). This time, though, I’m fully committing. I need accountability, and she’s exactly the person who can help me stay on track. She's motivating and can be a little scary at times. That touch of fear might be the push I need to stay focussed and make real progress.🤞
The Takeaway
Life is made up of seasons, each one offering us a chance to learn and grow. Your 20s are for embracing the chaos, making mistakes, and learning hard lessons. Your 40s? That’s when you collect all the wisdom you’ve earned, find peace within yourself, and start living with purpose.
No matter where you are in life, there’s always room for growth - whether it's through a solo run, a heart-to-heart with your younger self, or some tough love from a trainer who knows exactly how to push you.
Here’s to evolving, finding discipline (😣), and savouring what truly matters.
Now, off to conquer that solo run! 💪
